'Cats Hold Top Ranked Lakers Close

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team held the top ranked team in NCAA II in check for the majority of the match on Friday at the NMU Soccer Field.   Grand Valley State University scored its lone goal of the game at 59:44 to take the contest 1-0. NMU falls to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). With the win the Lakers improve to 7-0 and 2-0 respectively.
The first 45 minutes of play was even at 0-0. Shots were almost even at 5-4 in favor of the Lakers. For the game GVSU out-shot the Wildcats 11-4. Ashley Elsass scored the goal for the Lakare on an assist from Katy Tafler. Corner kicks were even at two for each side. Kara Music in the loss had seven saves for the day.
NMU will face Ferris State on the NMU pitch on Sunday (Sept. 21) at noon.
