The Game Is Almost Here - This Week In NMU Sports
MARQUETTE, Mich. – A national television audience will be watching the Superior Dome on Thursday night (Sept. 18). The Northern Michigan-Michigan Tech football game will be shown nationally on CBS College Sports Network. FSN Detroit is picking up the feed for the regional audience. Kickoff is set for a little after 8 p.m., but many other activities are planned before, during and after the game. The winner of the game will take home the Miner’s Cup. NMU currently has the Miner’s Cup as a result of the 34-27 win last year in the Superior Dome. The Wildcats (1-1, 1-1 GLIAC) will look for its second win of the season on Thursday night.
Before the game there will be a pre-game tailgate buffet from 4-7:30 p.m. The buffet prices are $6.95 for adults, $4.50 for children 3-12 and children under three are free. Before the game the Young Wildcat Club will be making signs, the ROTC from MTU will run the game ball to Baraga for a hand off to the NMU ROTC for the final leg to the game and then rappel the ball from the ceiling of the Superior Dome to give to the officials. During the game student organizations will be showing their Wildcat Spirit. After the game there will be a fifth quarter reception in the Superior Dome (east side). Meal, drink and game tickets are available at all NMU EZ Ticket outlets.
Tuesday night the Northern Michigan volleyball team (6-5, 1-1 GLIAC) will travel to Houghton to take on the Huskies in a GLIAC contest. The ‘Cats will stay on the road this weekend with matches at Ferris State (Sept. 19) and Grand Valley State (Sept. 20).
Soccer (4-3-0, 0-1-0 GLIAC) continues with its home stand this week with two GLIAC tilts. Friday (Sept. 19) the ‘Cats host Grand Valley State and then Ferris State on Sunday.
Cross country is back in action after taking last weekend off. The runners are at the Midwest Collegiate on Saturday (Sept. 20) in Kenosha, Wis. The men’s golf team will swing back into action on Sunday and Monday (Sept. 21 and 22) at the NCAA II Regional in South Haven, Mich.
