Soccer 'Cats Lose In Overtime

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team fell behind Winona State on Sunday came back to tie it up before losing in overtime 2-1. NMU falls to 3-2 on the season while Winona is 3-1.
The Warriors struck first on an unassisted goal by Lauren Sturdivant at 7:52. Brittney Buchanan tied the score at 62:58 off of a corner kick from Meghan Sarna. The one-all game held up the remainder of regulation. WSU scored the game-winning goal a little over five minutes into the overtime period. Gina Florian kicked home the game-winner at 5:24 into the extra period.
NMU had the 14-9 shot advantage for the game. The ‘Cats had a nine to one edge in corner kicks. Kara Music tallied six saves in the losing effort.
NMU will continue at home for the next four games. Up this coming week is a clash with Minnesota-Duluth on Friday (Sept. 12) at 4 p.m.   The ‘Cats will play its first conference game of the season on Sunday (Sept. 14) at noon against Ashland.
