'Cat Volleyball Team Picked Second In GLIAC Poll

BAY CITY, Mich. – The head volleyball coaches of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) chose the Northern Michigan University volleyball squad to finish second in the North Division in preseason balloting. NMU picked up 18 points and two first-place votes in the process. Grand Valley State University and Hillsdale College were picked to win the North and South Divisions respectively.

Each of the GLIAC’s 12 coaches voted for the division in which they play, but were not allowed to vote for their own team. First-place votes were worth five points, second-place were worth four, etc.

The Wildcats are coming off a 20-12 campaign in 2007 which included a 13-5 slate in conference play. NMU will play the Green and Gold match on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. in Vandament Arena. The ‘Cats open up the 2008 season a couple of days later at the University of Nebraska-Omaha Invitational the weekend of Aug. 29-30. NMU will play Minnesota State-Moorhead and UNO on Friday (Aug. 29). Saturday (Aug. 30) the ‘Cats face Emporia State and Minnesota-Crookston.
