Wildcats Selected Third In GLIAC Pre-season Soccer Poll

BAY CITY, Mich. – The head women’s soccer coaches of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) have selected the Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team third in the preseason poll along with conference newcomer Tiffin University. NMU received 30 points and picked up a first-place vote. Grand Valley State University was picked as the top team in the poll with 49 points and seven first-place votes.     
 
The league’s eight head coaches participated in the balloting, but were not allowed to vote for their team. The first-place team on each ballot received seven points, while the second-place team received six points, etc.
 
NMU was sixth last year in the GLIAC regular season standings with an overall record of 12-5-2 and a conference mark of 3-3-2. The ‘Cats open up the 2008 season with the Wildcat Invitational the weekend of Aug. 30-31. NMU will face Bemidji State on Saturday (Aug. 30) at 11 a.m. and then St. Cloud State on Sunday (Aug. 31) at 2 p.m.
