GLIAC Announces Preseason Football Poll

BAY CITY, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University football team was picked 10th in the 2008 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Preseason Football Coaches Poll which was released at the annual Football Media Day on Tuesday (Aug. 5). The Wildcats collected 40 points in the balloting. NMU is coming off a 5-5 overall and conference record for the 2007 season.
 
Defending league champion Grand Valley State University was picked to win the 2008 GLIAC football title by the head football coaches of the league. GVSU received 11 first-place votes and 121 overall. The league’s 12 head coaches participated in the balloting, but were not allowed to vote for their team. On each ballot the first-place team received 11 points, while second received 10 points, etc.
 
NMU opens the 2008 season at home against Northwood on Sept. 6. A week later the Wildcats are on the road at Tiffin (Sept. 13). The ‘Cats and Huskies of Michigan Tech tangle in the Superior Dome on Thursday night, Sept. 18 at 8 p.m., the game will be shown on CBS College Sports Network.
