
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team has earned an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2007 season. NMU was one of 353 teams for the 2007-08 season, which is a record, on the list which included women’s teams in NCAA I, II and III; NAIA, NCCAA, junior college and high school. Men’s teams included NCAA all divisions and high school. The Wildcats were one of 39 NCAA II teams.
The award was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
NMU’s GPA was a 3.61. Gannon, Michigan Tech and the University of Findlay were selected from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
