MARQUETTE— The United States Olympic Education Center will have four new additions to the weightlifting team by the end of July. Incoming freshmen Sage Burgener (Bonsall, Calif.), Caleb Ward (Wichita Falls, Texas) and Jessica Gallagher (Longwood, Fla.) will arrive in mid-July, while third-year student Sarah Robles, of California, has been in Marquette since the end of June.
Last season, Robles scored a personal record in the clean and jerk, snatch and total during the Junior Worlds, earning at silver medal at 75+ kilograms.
“I’m happy she decided to come here to pursue her career,” said head coach Andy Tysz. “I’m excited to work with her.”
Tysz said he will probably want to get some of the new members to move up a weight class. Burgener is in the 63 kg weight class, but will move up right away to 69 kg; Gallagher is at 58 kg, but will eventually move up to 63 kg; and Ward will stay at 105+ kg.
“I’ve been looking to get more explosive athletes into the program at the USOEC,” said Tysz. “I’m optimistic about what the upcoming season will bring.”
The weightlifters will attend the Rodger DeGarmo Memorial Sept. 5-7 in Colorado Springs, Colo. as their first event of the season.
