COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Future Northern Michigan University hockey player and Marquette native, Justin Florek, has been invited to the 2008 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp which will be held in Lake Placid, N.Y. from Aug. 1-9. A total of 53 players have been invited. Participating players are candidates for the 2009 U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2008-Jan. 5, 2009 in Ottawa, Ontario.
“It is a great event. I have had the privilege to coach in four junior tournaments. It is the premier event in international hockey,” said NMU head coach, Walt Kyle. “We are very proud Justin has been invited to camp and wish him the very best of luck.”
The camp will feature practices and eight international games with a split squad of the best American players under the age of 20 facing off against Sweden and Finland.
Florek was a member of the bronze medal-winning 2008 U.S. National Under-18 Team which competed at the International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 World Championship. He has played the past two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program.
The camp will open on Aug. 1 with the first international games set for Aug. 5. All games will be held at the 1980 Rink Herb Brooks Arena at the Olympic Center.
