Jessica Trotochaud Sets New NMU Record In 400 Hurdles
MIDLAND, Mich. – Saturday the Northern Michigan University women’s track and field team competed at the Northwood Open. No team score was kept at the event.
The Wildcats had two runners run in the finals of the 100-meter dash. Danielle St. Onge was second with a time of 12.76 while teammate Brittnee Balbierz was sixth (13.06). St. Onge was seventh in the 200 with a final time of 26.31 with teammate Leslie Luehmann eighth (26.37).
Maegan Hendershot with a time of 2:20.39 in the 800 placed fourth in the event. Three other ‘Cats were in the top 10 in the 800 as Erin VanEnkevort was seventh (2:27.60), Jennifer Wiedmeyer ninth (2:29.52) and Kristen Schultz 10th (2:29.68).
NMU had three of the top six runners in the 1,500. Wiedmeyer led the way with a third-place showing with a time of 5:01.36, Schultz was fourth (5:03.93) and VanEnkevort fifth (5:04.71). Kirsten Holkas was sixth in the 3,000 (11:37.82) and Jessica Krob ninth (11:53.18).
The ‘Cats went second and third in the 5,000 with Michele Bisig (19:44.33) and Danielle Stein (20:13.62) respectively. Natalie Bertucci (15.92) was third in the 100 hurdles while teammate Leslie Luehmann (16.00) was fifth.
Newcomer Jessica Trotochand set a new NMU record in the 400 hurdles with a clocking of 1:05.49 which was good for second. Another NMU record was set in the 4x100 relay as Callie Boik, Bertucci, Balbierz and St. Onge ran a 49.64 for a fourth-place showing.
The field events saw Karin Diebold leap to a new NMU record in the pole vault with a 10-6 effort which was good for fifth place. Bertucci in the high jump recorded an effort of 5-0.25 for seventh. The long jump saw the ‘Cats go second and third, with Luehmann (17-02.25) and St. Onge (17-01.25) respectively.
Angie Leckson had a throw of 39-01.0 in the shot put for a fifth-place showing. Krista Squiers won the javelin with an effort of 119-09.0. Boik in the javelin was fourth (109-04.0), Paris Malin seventh (100-11.0) and Leckson 10th (90-06.0). Squiers also competed in the discus where she was fourth (122-04.0) and in the hammer where she was also fourth (141-00).
This week the ‘Cats are at the GLIAC Multi’s at Hillsdale College on Wednesday and Thursday (April 23-24). Then on Saturday (April 26) the team is at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational.
