Former NMU Icer Scores Game-Winner In Germany
DRESDEN, Germany – Former Northern Michigan University hockey player Kevin Gardner scored the game-winning goal in overtime for his team in Germany, the Dresden Ice Lions to defeat the EV Fussen, to capture the league championship (GerObL). The Ice Lions were down 4-2 with about 10 minutes left in regulation.
In the overtime period the Ice Lions dominated the period by keeping the puck in the Fussen’s zone. With about three minutes left in the overtime period the Ice Lions were on a four-on-three as Gardner won the draw. After some scuttle in front of the net, Gardner knocked home a rebound for the win (5-4). He was announced as the “Tore-Meister” (goal master) for the crowd.
Gardner appeared in 52 games for Dresden and registered 52-40-92. Gardner will be returning to Dresden next season where the team will be playing in the Bundesliga, which is a higher league.
