DULUTH, Minn. – For the second consecutive Saturday the Northern Michigan University volleyball team swept its competition. This past Saturday (April 12) at the UM-Duluth Spring Tourney the Wildcats took all four of its matches. NMU is currently 9-3 on the spring. The ‘Cats only losses were against Notre Dame, Michigan and Purdue at the University of Michigan Spring Tournament the first Saturday of spring play (March 29).
At Duluth the ‘Cats defeated UM-Duluth Alumni 2-1 (25-21, 25-21, 11-15), UW-Superior 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 15-8), UM-Duluth 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 15-12) and Michigan Tech 2-1 (19-25, 25-21, 15-13).
“We have to get ready to play NCAA II competition. The difference of play is that the opponent plays “out of system” volleyball and they understand how to be successful playing that style,” said Dominic Yoder. “We had to adapt to seeing a different style. We struggled at first and a little more at the end of the day. But, overall we played well enough to win all four matches.”
This Saturday (April 19) NMU will host Lake Superior State at 2 p.m. in Vandament Arena. A limited number of tickets are still available for $5 each. Each ticket stub will be put into a drawing for prizes.
