YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team had a very successful day at the Eastern Michigan University Spring Bash on Saturday (April 5). NMU won all four of its matches.
The Wildcats defeated NCAA I foes Cleveland State 2-1 (17-25, 25-20, 16-14), Toledo 2-0 (25-8, 25-16), Oakland 2-0 (25-20, 25-23) and fellow GLIAC member Northwood 2-0 (25-15, 25-11). Over the past two weekends the ‘Cats are 4-3 against NCAA I teams. NMU has defeated Cleveland State, Eastern Michigan, Toledo and Oakland. The ‘Cats have dropped matches to Michigan, Notre Dame and Purdue.
“The offense is clicking; serve reception is the key to our success offensively. Defensively, players have also reinvented themselves as outstanding servers which has allowed our team to dismantle opponents serve receptions to allow our system to work effortlessly,” said Dominic Yoder.
NMU has two more weekends of play on its spring schedule. This Saturday (April 12) the ‘Cats are at the UM-Duluth Spring Tourney as the team will face the UM-Duluth alumni team, UM-Duluth, UW-Superior and St. Cloud State.
On Saturday (April 19) the ‘Cats host Lake Superior State in Vandament Arena at 2 p.m. for its final match of the spring.
