'Cats Have First Outdoor Test
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s track and field team opened the outdoor portion of the 2008 schedule at the Bulldog Invitational at Ferris State on Saturday (April 5). A team score was not kept at the event.
The 100-meter dash saw the Wildcats have three runners in the top 10. Danielle St. Onge led the way with a sixth-place finish with a time of 12.80 as she was followed by Brittnee Balbierz in eighth (13.00) and Kaylee Laakso 10th (13.04). Laakso was the highest placing ‘Cat in the 200 as she ran a 27.13, which was good for 11th.
Jessica Trotochaud was the lone ‘Cat in the 400 where she turned in a time of 1:03.63. Kristen Schultz in the 1,500 ran a 5:12.20. In the 3,000 Kristen Holkas ran an 11:44.51 with teammate Jessica Krob next at 11:45.06. NMU had two runners in the 100 hurdles as both ran an 18.07 (Natalie Bertucci and Leslie Luehmann). Kyle Richards ran a 13:01.72 in the 400 hurdles.
The 4x100 relay of Callie Boik, Bertucci, Balbierz and St. Onge placed fourth in the event with a time of 49.86.
The field events saw Bertucci jump 5-0 in the high jump. Luehmann in the long jump went 16-11.25 for third place. St. Onge with a leap of 16-07.75 tied for fourth-place in the long jump. Luehmann was third in the triple jump (34-06.25) with teammate St. Onge fifth (33-08.75). Angie Leckson had a top five finish in the shot put with a throw 41-01.5 which was good for fourth.
The javelin saw two ‘Cats in the top 10 with Krista Squiers third (111-06 and Callie Boik sixth (107-01).
NMU will be back in action on Saturday (April 12) at the SVSU Outdoor Collegiate.
