MARQUETTE, Mich. – This week’s Northern Michigan University athletic schedule has the hockey team on the road for playoff action and a diver attempting to qualify for nationals.
The NMU hockey team (17-18-4, 12-13-3 CCHA) will travel to East Lansing to take on the Spartans of Michigan State University (23-9-5, 19-6-3 CCHA) in the second round of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Playoffs in a best-of-three series. The two teams played four times during the 2007-08 regular season. MSU swept NMU in East Lansing in October (5-4, 3-2) and the Wildcats took care of the Spartans in Marquette the second weekend in February (3-1, 3-0).
NMU and MSU will play on Friday (March 14) at 7:35 p.m., Saturday (March 15) at 7:05 p.m. and if necessary Sunday (March 16) at 7:05 p.m. Friday’s game will be shown on Fox Sports Net Detroit beginning at 7:30 p.m . The games can also be heard on The Bear (93.1 FM and 94.1 FM) or on-line

Kelli Vander Baan is competing at a pre-national qualifier for the 1-meter diving event for the NCAA II Swimming and Diving Championships. The event is being held at the Mizzo Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Missouri from March 11-15.
