FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Two members of the Northern Michigan University hockey team were selected to the 2008 Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) All-Rookie Team. Bowling Green State University was the only other school to have two players on the team.
Mark Olver, a forward, from Burnaby, B.C. and Erik Gustafsson, a defenseman, from Kvissleby, Sweden were selected to the team.
Olver was third on the NMU squad in conference scoring and tied for second in goals scored with 13-10-23 in 25 games. He led all rookies with 13 goals in CCHA play and was tied for the lead with six power-play goals. Olver earned CCHA Rookie of the Months honors in February. He is currently tied for the overall goal lead with 18 and leads the team in overall points (35).
Gustafsson placed second among rookies and first with the Wildcats with 17 assists and a +17 rating in 28 conference games. He finished tied for ninth among all rookie skaters and first among rookie defensemen with 17 points. Gustafsson currently leads NMU with 26 overall assists.
The team was determined by a vote of the conference head coaches, the CCHA All-Rookie Team will be honored at the 2008 CCHA Awards on Thursday, March 20, at the Fox Theatre in Detroit.
