BOZEMAN, Montana – Martin Stuge Banerud just missed stepping up to the podium on Friday at the NCAA Skiing Championships. He finished in fourth place in the 20K classical race with a time of 1:03:30.6. He was about 10 seconds behind the third-place finisher. For his effort he earned All-American honors.
Two other skiers for Northern Michigan University were in the race. Phillip Violett was 14th (1:05:29.9) and Gus Kaeding was 23rd (1:06:53.1).
In the team standings after three days (includes alpine) at the NCAA Skiing Championships the Wildcats are in eighth place overall with 287 points. Colorado leads the competition with 483 points.
If the cross country skiing competition was scored separately then NMU would have finished in third place. The breakdown would have been 150 points for the women and 137 for the men.
