MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University announces the 2008 football schedule. The Wildcats are coming off a 5-5 overall and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) campaign in 2007. The ‘Cats were awarded a forfeit win after the conclusion of the 2007 season. Last season, NMU won three of its final four games. NMU will play five games at home and five on the road in 2008.
The ‘Cats open the 2008 campaign in the Superior Dome against Northwood on Sept. 6 at 4 p.m. The next week (Sept. 13), NMU is on the road at the GLIAC’s newest member, Tiffin. Michigan Tech will be the opponent on Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. in the Superior Dome. The winner will receive the Miner’s Cup. NMU defeated the Huskies in Marquette last season 34-27 to bring the Miner’s Cup back to Marquette. The game will be televised live by CBS College Sports Network.
On Saturday, Sept. 27, NMU will be in Big Rapids, Mich. to take on the Ferris State Bulldogs. The first Saturday in October (Oct. 4) finds the ‘Cats back in the Superior Dome hosting the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals for homecoming at 4 p.m.
NMU will play two of its final five games of the season at home. NMU will be on the road for back-to-back Saturdays. First up is a trip to the Motor City to take on Wayne State on Oct. 11. The following week the ‘Cats play the Chargers at Hillsdale (Oct. 18).
NMU will then be home for back-to-back Saturdays. Findlay is first on the schedule for Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. which is during Family Weekend and Band Day. The final home game of the season will be against Grand Valley State on Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. which will be Senior Day.
NMU goes on the road for the final game of the season. The ‘Cats travel to Indianapolis to face the Greyhounds on Nov. 8.
