MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at Northern Michigan University announces the Athletes of the Month for January. Jake Suardini from the men’s basketball team was selected as the Male Athlete of the Month. Mimi Marschall from the swimming and diving team was named the Female Athlete of the Month.
Suardini, a senior from Gwinn, Mich., averaged 19.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 4.0 apg and 2.9 spg for the month. He scored a career-high 32 points against Hillsdale on Jan. 20 and added 10 rebounds in the 67-66 win. Suardini against the Chargers scored the first 14 points of the game for the Wildcats.
He currently leads the team in points with 390 (15.6 ppg), assists with 73 (2.9 apg) and steals with 43 (1.7 spg). Suardini is third in rebounds with 107 (4.3 rpg).
Marschall, a senior from Burnsville, Minn., won the 200-yard I.M. and the 100 butterfly against UW-Oshkosh. She placed second in the 200 and 500 freestyle events at UW-Green Bay.
At the recently concluded Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Swimming and Diving Championships, she was fourth in the 400 I.M. and sixth in the 200 I.M.
