Win A Diamond At Basketball On Thursday
MARQUETTE, Mich. – Two basketball games on Thursday and another two on Saturday at the Berry Events Center will highlight this week’s Northern Michigan University athletic schedule.
Thursday (Feb. 14) is Valentine’s Day and the NMU women’s basketball team (8-14, 3-11 GLIAC) gets things started at 5:30 p.m. against the Timberwolves of Northwood University. The men (6-17, 5-9 GLIAC) will hit the court at 7:30 p.m. against the Timberwolves. Thursday’s game is “Diamond Date Night” enter a chance to win a diamond from Wattsson & Wattsson Jewelers. All NMU faculty and staff get into the game for free. A set of trading cards will be given out.
The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) “Think Pink” is being held from Feb. 8-17. The initiative is a global unified effort for the WBCA’s nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court across campuses in communities and beyond.
Saturday (Feb. 16) the women and men face Saginaw Valley State University at 1 and 3 p.m. respectively. A set of trading cards will be given out.
The NMU hockey team (12-15-3, 9-11-2 CCHA) 2-0-2 in the past two weekends against Michigan and Michigan State face another Big 10 foe on the road this weekend (Feb. 15-16) in Columbus, Ohio. The Wildcats face the Ohio State University Buckeyes as the puck will drop both nights at 7:05 p.m.
In Indianapolis, Ind. the NMU women’s swimming and diving team will be competing at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Swimming and Diving Championships. The event will take place at the University of Indianapolis from Wednesday (Feb. 13) through Saturday night (Feb. 16).
After a successful home meet last Saturday the NMU women’s track and field team will compete at the St. Scholastica Invite in Duluth, Minn. on Saturday (Feb. 16).
The men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams will compete for the final time before the NCAA Skiing Championships in early March. This week (Feb. 16-17) the teams are at the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) regional championships which are being held in Giants Ridge, Minn.
