Women have three of the top four at pre-regional race

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s Nordic ski team got one of its two pre-regional races in this past weekend. Saturday (Feb. 9) the team competed in the 12K freestyle which was held at the NTN Trails. Sunday’s (Feb. 10) mass start classic race in Houghton was cancelled. 
 
The Wildcats had four of the top six skiers in the event. Morgan Smyth led the way by winning the race with a time of 39:05.9 just ahead of teammate Laura DeWitt (39:06.9). Maria Stuber (39:37.1) was fourth and Anna Berglund (42:07.6) sixth. Tanya Cook (42:55.9) was the final NMU skier across the finish line in 11th.
 
NMU easily won the team race with 24 points. With 13 points in second was UW-Green Bay and third was Michigan Tech (8).  
 
The team will be at the CCSA Regional Championships in Giants Ridge, Minn. this weekend (Feb. 16-17).
