Five Players In Double Figures Lead Wildcats

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team took a brief pit stop Monday night at the Berry Events Center with a non-conference game against Northland Baptist. NMU had a 13-0 lead before the Pioneers scored its first basket of the game. The Wildcats held a 51-20 lead at the half and took the game 92-49.
 
NMU improves to 6-15 overall while NB falls to 10-12.
 
Five players in double figures led the ‘Cats on the night. Jerard Ajami had a team-high 17 points. Another starter, Tyler Kazmierkoski poured in 10 points. Kyle Greene had a double-double with career-highs in points (13) and rebounds (16). He also had seven assists. Darren Jones off the bench had 14 points, 10 rebounds for another double-double and career highs for both. Mike Polfus had a career night with 12 points and five rebounds. Joel Widmer led the Pioneers with 11 points.
 
As a team the ‘Cats were 37-82 from the floor (45.1 percent). Ajami was a perfect 5-5 from beyond the arc and as a team NMU was 16-36 (44.4 percent). NMU made seven trips to the free throw line and converted two of the throws. Rebounding was in favor of the ‘Cats 60-24.
 
NMU will be back in the thick of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play later in the week. The ‘Cats are at Ferris State on Thursday (Feb. 7) and then travel to Grand Valley State for a game on Saturday (Feb. 9).
