MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at Northern Michigan University announces the Athletes of the Month for December. Brian Stewart from the hockey team was selected as the Male Athlete of the Month. Allison Carroll from the women’s basketball team was selected as the Female Athlete of the Month.
Stewart, a sophomore from Burnaby, B.C., went 2-1-1 for the month with a 1.72 goals-against average and a .944 saves percentage. He was named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Goaltender of the Week and the INCH (Inside College Hockey) Player of the Week for his play against Michigan Tech (Dec. 14-15). For the series he allowed one goal and recorded his first career shutout as he registered a 0.48 goals-against average and a .985 saves percentage. Stewart stopped 64-of-65 shots in the win (2-0) and tie (1-1).
He is currently 6-10-1 with a 2.83 goals-against average and a .902 saves percentage.
Carroll, a senior from Rhinelander, Wis., led the Wildcats to a 4-2 record in December. She averaged 12.0 ppg and 5.7 rpg for the month. Carroll had 21 points and seven rebounds against Finlandia for her best game in December.
Carroll currently leads the team in points with 283 (14.9 ppg) and 112 rebounds (5.9 rpg).
