GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University swimming and diving team competed at UW-Green Bay on Saturday (Jan. 19). Involved in the meet were UW-Green Bay, Butler, St. Norbert and NMU. The Wildcats competed score wise against St. Norbert while UW-Green Bay and Butler scored off against each other. At the end of the meet NMU had defeated St. Norbert 133-70.
The 200-yard medley relay was the first event of the meet. Sarah Dobratz, Sarah Van Oss, Emily Olson and Amelia Marschall were the members of the NMU medley relay as they placed second overall with a 2:00.14. Dobratz in the next event which was the 1,000 freestyle swam an 11:25.78 for second place. Also in the event was Sarah Cempel as she was fifth (11:48.58). 
NMU had three swimmers in the top six in the 200 freestyle. Marschall led the way with a second-place showing with a time of 2:01.22, next was Nicole Kaszuba in fourth (2:12.48) and Lindsey Kuehn fifth (2:21.51).  The 50 freestyle saw Olson third (26.95) and Kate Willems sixth (28.37). Courtney Lowry led the ‘Cats in the 200 I.M. with a fourth-place finish (2:27.82) with teammate Lindsay VanderBroeck fifth (2:32.26).
Kelli Vander Baan took the 1-meter diving with a score of 209.85 and then came back to take the 3-meter (207.30). Olson was second in the 100 butterfly (1:06.14) and Cempel (1:12.38) fourth in the event. In the 100 freestyle, Dobratz placed fourth with a time of 1:00.50 while teammate VanderBroeck was seventh (1:04.49).
Van Oss swam a 1:06.36 in the 100 backstroke which was good for second place. Marschall swam 20 laps of the pool in the 500 freestyle and touched the wall with a time of 5:27.24 which was good for second.   Van Oss was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.19). 
The final event of the meet was the 200 freestyle relay. NMU had two relays in the event. The “A” relay of Willems, Lowry, Cempel and VanderBroeck were fourth (1:55.23). Kuehn, Kara  Vander Baan, Kelli Vander Baan and Kaszuba were the members of the “B” relay as they were fifth (2:03.27).
NMU’s next competition will be at UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Jan. 26).
