Bulldogs Score Three Times In Middle Frame
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Three goals in the second period by the Ferris State University Bulldogs held up on Friday night as the home team prevailed for the 3-2 win in the first game of the weekend series. The loss was the Wildcats fourth in a row the team is now 9-15-1 overall and 6-11-0 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). FSU improves to 10-9-2 and 7-7-1 respectively.
After a scoreless first period the second period saw four of the five goals scored. Eleven seconds into the middle frame the Bulldogs got the home crowd going with a goal by Blair Riley. A little over a minute later, Matt Siddall tied the score at one-all with his sixth goal of the season. Andrew Sarauer assisted. Adam Miller scored at 7:48 to give FSU the lead for good at 2-1. Brendan Connolly made the score 3-1 with a power-play marker at 15:30.
NMU got to within one at 3-2 when Phil Fox scored his ninth goal of the season at 11:15 of the third period. Gregor Hanson and Billy Smith assisted.
Brian Stewart of NMU picked up third star of the game honors as he had 35 saves in a losing effort. Mitch O’Keefe recorded 16 saves in the win. FSU had 20 more shot on goal than the ‘Cats at 38-18. Only three penalties were called in the game, NMU had two while FSU had one. The ‘Cats only had one power play opportunity while the Bulldogs were 1-2.
The two teams will hit the ice tomorrow night (Saturday, Jan. 19) for the second game of the weekend set. The puck will drop at 8:05 p.m.; the game will be available on College Sports Television (CSTV).
