Both Basketballs Get Things Started This Week
MARQUETTE, Mich. – A total of five home events are on the docket for Northern Michigan University from Thursday through Monday (Jan. 3-7).
Men’s and women’s basketball will get things started on Thursday (Jan. 3) against Grand Valley State in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) double-header. The NMU women’s team (5-6, 1-3 GLIAC) will hit the hardwood at 5:30 p.m. At approximately 7:30 p.m. the NMU men’s team (1-11, 1-3 GLIAC) will face the Lakers. Thursday is Fan Appreciation Day as all sodas will be $1.
Friday at 12 p.m. (noon) will be the Blue Line Club Luncheon in the University Center. The event, which is a preview to the Notre Dame series, is open to the public as the cost is $7.75 per person. Featured speakers will be NMU head coach Walt Kyle and Notre Dame’s Jeff Jackson. Selected Wildcats will also speak.
After going 1-1 at the Wells Fargo Denver Cup last week the Wildcats hit the Berry Events Center ice for a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) showdown against the Fighting Irish on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 4-5). The ‘Cats (8-11-1, 5-9-0 CCHA) will look to pick up four points on the weekend. Saturday night is trading card night. Each night the puck will drop at 7:35 p.m. After Saturday’s game there will be a Blue Line Club Fourth Period reception at Vango’s.
The NMU men’s and women’s Nordic ski team are currently competing at the U.S. National Skiing Championships in Houghton, Mich. until Sunday (Jan. 6).
On Monday, Jan.7, the women’s basketball team will face Northland College in a non-conference game at 5:30 p.m.
