MARQUETTE, Mich. – After being named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Goaltender of the Week yesterday, Brian Stewart has been selected as the INCH (Inside College Hockey) Player of the Week as presented by The INCH Shop.
He allowed one goal on Friday night against Michigan Tech and recorded his first career shutout against the Huskies on Saturday. Stewart, a sophomore from Burnaby, B.C., stopped 64-of-65 shots in the win (2-0) and tie (1-1) against MTU for a 0.48 goals-against average and a .985 saves percentage on the weekend. In his past three starts Stewart has posted a 2-0-1 record, a 0.97 goals-against average and a .968 saves percentage.
Stewart had 29 saves on Friday night (14 in the third period alone) and 35 on Saturday.
Currently for the season, Stewart is 4-6-1 with a .886 saves percentage and 3.11 goals-against average.
