This Week In NMU Sports
MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team (6-10-0, 5-9-0 CCHA) is the lone team at home for the remaining days in 2007. NMU will go home-and-home with the Michigan Tech Huskies this weekend. The puck will drop in Marquette on Friday (Dec. 14) at 7:35 p.m. then the next night (Dec. 15) the action will be in Houghton beginning at 7:07 p.m. Friday’s game will be the teddy bear/toy toss. All fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear and/or toy to throw onto the ice. After Friday’s game is a Wildcat and Blue Line Club reception in the Wildcat Room.
Earlier on Friday will be the Blue Line Luncheon featuring NMU head coach Walt Kyle and selected Wildcats. MTU head coach Jamie Russell will also speak. The luncheon will be held in the University Center beginning at 12 p.m. (noon). The event is open to the public with a cost of $7.75.
The men’s and women’s basketball teams will be in action on Saturday (Dec. 15) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) encounter at Ashland. First up will be the women’s team (3-5, 1-2 GLIAC) at 1 p.m. then the men (1-6, 1-2 GLIAC) will take the court at 3 p.m. The men’s team will be in action on Monday night (Dec. 17) against St. Norbert in De Pere, Wis. at 8 p.m.
The NMU men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams will be skating at the pre-U.S. National event in Houghton, Mich. on Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 15-16).
