This Week In NMU Sports

MARQUETTE, Mich.  - Basketball and Nordic skiing will share the spotlight this week as they will be at home. Women’s basketball (2-4, 1-1 GLIAC) will get things started with its home opener for the 2007-08 season on Tuesday (Dec. 4) at 5:30 p.m. against UM-Duluth.  The men’s basketball team (0-5, 0-2 GLIAC) will also have its home opener against Finlandia the next night (Wednesday, Dec. 5) at 7:30 p.m. Both teams will host its U.P. rival Michigan Tech on Saturday (Dec. 8) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. The women will begin at 1 p.m. and the men will tipoff around 3 p.m.

Nordic skiing will try to get its home event in this week. Last week the event was cancelled because of a lack of snow. Skiing will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday (Dec. 8) at a site to be determined.

Opening its 2007-08 season on Friday (Dec. 7) will be the NMU women’s indoor track and field team. The Wildcats will be competing at the Saginaw Valley State University Open.

Hockey is off this week, but will host the Huskies of Michigan Tech on Friday, Dec. 14 at 7:35 p.m. Earlier in the day at 12 p.m. (noon) there will be a Blue Line Luncheon in the University Center. The cost of the luncheon is $7.75 per person and the public is invited. During the game that night there will be a teddy bear/toy toss. The event is sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at NMU. All fans are encouraged to bring something to the game to toss onto the ice. The teddy bears and toys will be donated to the Cheer Club. After the game against MTU there will be a Wildcat and Blue Line Club Reception in the Wildcat Room.
