This Week In NMU Sports
MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams are hosting the Wildcat Open on Saturday (Dec. 1). Location and time of the event will be announced.
The men’s (0-3) and women’s basketball (1-3) teams will venture out for its first taste of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play for the season. Both teams will take the road to Erie, Pa. to take on the Gannon Golden Knights on Thursday (Nov. 29) at 5:30 (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men). On Saturday (Dec. 1) the ‘Cats will travel across town to take on the Lakers of Mercyhurst College. The women’s game is set for 1 p.m. while the men’s game is at 3 p.m.
Hockey (5-9-0, 4-8-0 CCHA) will take its longest road trip of the season when they play two games in Fairbanks, Alaska against the Alaska Nanooks. The puck will drop both nights at 11:05 p.m., Marquette time. The Wildcats are riding a three-game winning streak and have taken four of its past five games.
Swimming and diving will compete at the Eastern Michigan Invitational on Friday (Nov. 30). The invitational will begin at 3:30 p.m. This will be the ‘Cats final competition for the semester.
Looking ahead to next week, the men’s and women’s basketball teams will open up home play for the 2007-08 season. The women get things started on Tuesday (Dec. 4) against UM-Duluth at 5:30 p.m. The next night (Dec. 5) the men will face Finlandia at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 8) the ‘Cats host its first GLIAC doubleheader of the season against Michigan Tech at 1 and 3 p.m. for the women and men respectively.
