John Thomsen NMU's Hockey Radio Voice

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Star Broadcasting and Northern Michigan University announces that John Thomsen has been selected to be the play-by-play announcer for Wildcat hockey on The Bear (93.1 FM and 94.1 FM). His stint will begin with this weekend’s Lake Superior State series. 
 
He has been the voice of Marquette Redmen hockey for the past 11 years. Thomsen handled the play-by-play call for the Redmen’s 2004 state championship run which was highlighted by the victory over Detroit Catholic Central. 
 
“Northern Star Broadcasting is pleased to have John back with us. His localism, professionalism, and passion for hockey will serve and entertain our listeners well,” said Tammy Johnson, General Manager of Northern Star Broadcasting. “We are looking forward to the rest of the season with such an experienced hockey announcer.”
 
Thomsen has broadcasted a number of sporting events for local schools including Gwinn, Ishpeming, Marquette, Negaunee and Westwood. For five years, Thomsen, hosted a Saturday morning sport show on WDMJ.
 
Thomsen has done public address announcing for Marquette High School and Northern Michigan University. For the past five summers, Thomsen, announced stock car racing at Thunder Valley Raceway.
 
Outside of his announcing and broadcasting schedule, Thomsen is a managing partner of Johnson’s Sports in Marquette.
