MARQUETTE – The United States Olympic Education Center Greco-Roman wrestling team will compete at the New York Athletic Club’s Open Holiday International Wrestling Championships this weekend Nov. 16-18 in West Orange, N.J.
USOEC wrestlers competing at the tournament are: Northern Michigan University junior Spenser Mango (St. Louis, Mo.) and post-baccalaureate student Nate Engle at 55 kilograms; facility user Joe Betterman (Chicago, Ill.) and freshman Jake Swensen (Moroni, Utah) at 60kg; facility user Tim Bleau (Ishpeming, Mich.), sophomore John Dibala (Silverton, Ore.), junior Ben Sanchez (Leominster, Mass.), and freshman Aaron Briggs (Tuscon, Ariz.) at 66 kg; senior Jake Fisher (Platte City, Mo.), juniors Cheney Haight (Drem, Utah) and Andy Bisek (Chaska, Minn.), freshmen Chad Hemerson (Monterey, Calif.) and Talan Knox (Salt Lake City, Utah) at 74 kg; facility user Jake Plamann (Freedom, Wis.), sophomore Mike Kelly (New York City, N.Y.) and sophomore Mike Rossetti (Pittsburg, Pa.) at 84 kg; and freshman Peter Gounaridis (Leominster, Mass.) at 96 kg.
In addition to the annual tournament, the competition will kick off with an International Wrestling Dual Meet featuring Team USA vs. Romania in Greco-Roman wrestling on Thursday, Nov. 15.
USOEC athletes competing against Romania include Mango, Betterman and Bleau. Team USA won the World Championship in Greco-Roman wrestling in 2007.
