MARQUETTE, Mich. – Troy Mattson, the head women’s basketball coach at Northern Michigan University, announces two student-athletes have both signed a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period to play basketball for the Wildcats beginning with the 2008-09 season. Lauren Beeler and Brynn Larsen will suit up for the ‘Cats. Both student-athletes excel in the classroom. “Both Lauren and Brynn are a 3.9 or higher student coming out of high school,” said Mattson.
Beeler, a 5-11 forward from L’Anse, Mich. (L’Anse High School) averaged 18.9 points, 10 rebounds and 4.3 blocks per game for her junior season. She was a first team all-conference and All-U.P. Class D selection last year. Beeler was named as an honorable mention selection to the all-state team.
“Lauren is a very good shooter who can also score off the dribble, she has a very good understanding how to play the game and has the tenacity and toughness to be a very good player at this level,” said Mattson. “We look forward to having her help our program in the future.”
Larsen, a 5-7 combo guard from Oconto Falls, Wis. (Oconto Falls High School) scored 15.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per outing during her junior campaign. She was a three-time first team all-conference selection. Larsen has also been a first team All-Green Bay Area pick.
“Brynn is a very good scorer and an extremely athletic guard who will fit into the mold of the guards we have previously recruited. She also has an incredible toughness about her and is a highly touted three-sport athlete,” said Mattson. “Brynn has all the qualities we are looking for to continue to make our program better.”
