ALLENDALE, Mich. – A couple of weeks ago in Marquette the Northern Michigan University women’s volleyball team took care of the Lakers of Grand Valley State University. Today in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women’s Volleyball Tournament semifinals the Lakers took care of the Wildcats in three games (18-30, 19-30, 21-30). NMU is now 20-12 on the season while GVSU advances with a 29-3 mark. The Lakers will face Hillsdale in the GLIAC Tournament Championship match on Sunday.
For the match the ‘Cats had a hitting percentage of .103 percent. NMU had 31 kills in 117 total attempts. Caryn VanBeckum had eight kills to lead the team. Brittany McGowan had 26 assists to pace the ‘Cats and 10 digs. Cassie Osiecki was the only other ‘Cat with 10 or more digs for the match as she had 13.
NMU had no block solos for the afternoon and four block assists. Amy Andersen-Goldsworthy and Katt Garvick had two block assists each.
NMU still has a chance to qualify for the NCAA II Regional Tournament.
