This Week In NMU Sports (Nov. 7-10)

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team (19-11) host the Ferris State University Bulldogs in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. in Vandament Arena. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. The match highlights this week’s events for NMU.  If the Wildcats would win they would advance to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals and Finals over the weekend (Nov. 10-11) on the campus of the highest remaining seed. The winner of the GLIAC Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA II National Tournament.
 
Friday (Nov. 9) the day will begin with the Blue Line Club Luncheon featuring Northern Michigan University head coach Walt Kyle and Western Michigan University head coach Jim Culhane. Selected Wildcats will also appear. The luncheon, cost $7.75, will begin at 12 p.m. (noon) in the University Center and is open to the public.   That night the Wildcats (1-7-0, 0-6-0 CCHA) and the Broncos will play the first game of the weekend series with the puck dropping at 7:35 p.m. on both nights Prior to the game there will be a canned food drive outside the Berry Events Center.
 
The NMU football team (4-5, 4-5 GLIAC) will play its season finale against the top football team in NCAA II, the Grand Valley State Lakers, on the road in Allendale, Mich. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10. NMU has won three games in a row and four of the past five.
 
For Saturday’s (Nov. 10) hockey game tickets are available for $6 for all veterans, active duty, reserve, National Guard personnel and their dependents at the Superior Dome Ticket Office or the Berry Events Center on game day. ROTC is sponsoring a eudarathon that day to honor the men who died at the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir. Many men died from the cold, so the race is called the Frozen Chosin Eudurathon. The medal ceremony will be held during the game. The Army National Guard of Michigan and the NMU Army ROTC will be giving away items at the game.
