ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team might have ended its season on Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women’s Soccer Tournament. NMU was facing the top seed in the tournament and the number one ranked team in the country in Grand Valley State University. The Lakers scored two first-half goals and added one in the second half for the 3-0 win. GVSU will advance to the finals while the ‘Cats season could be over. NMU is 12-5-2 on the season while GVSU is 18-0-0.
Irie Dennis got the Lakers on the board with a goal at 7:25. Katy Tafler made the score 2-0 with a goal at 39:38. GVSU’s final goal came off the foot of Katie Johnson at 72:07.
Kara Music was in goal for the ‘Cats as she ended the game with eight saves. Kristina Nasturzio for the Lakers had four saves. NMU ended the game with five shots as four were on-goal. GVSU had 18 shots for the game with 12 on-target. NMU had one corner kick for the game while the Lakers had eight.
NMU will find out on Sunday if they are invited to the NCAA II Tournament.
