MARQUETTE, Mich. – Hockey and volleyball highlight this week’s home schedule. Both squads will be in action over the weekend in Marquette.
Soccer (11-4-2) gets the week started by playing at the University of Findlay in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women’s Soccer Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 30. If the Wildcats would win they would play the semifinals and finals at Grand Valley State University on Friday (Nov. 2) and Sunday (Nov. 4).
Volleyball (18-10, 12-4 GLIAC) plays a mid-week match at Michigan Tech on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 the ‘Cats face the Lakers of Lake Superior State University at 4 p.m. It will be Senior Day for the volleyball squad. A free clinic will be offered before the match from 3-3:30 p.m. in the Wildcat Room.
On Friday, Nov. 2 there will be a Blue Line Luncheon in the University Center beginning at 12 p.m. (noon). The cost of the luncheon is $7.75 and is open to the public. Featured speakers will be NMU head coach Walt Kyle and Miami head coach Enrico Blasi. Also selected Wildcats will appear.
Later that night the number one ranked team in college hockey the Miami RedHawks will face off against NMU (1-5, 0-4 CCHA) in the first game of the weekend series at 7:35 p.m. Friday’s game is Fan Appreciation Day as hotdogs will be $1. The event is being sponsored by Gordon Food Service Marketplace.   
The NMU football team (3-5, 3-5 GLIAC) will play in Erie, Pa. against the Golden Knights of Gannon University in a 1 p.m. kickoff on Saturday (Nov. 3). The ‘Cats will be looking for its third win in a row. The NMU cross country team will be competing at the NCAA II Great Lakes Regional Championship that day. That night the RedHawks and ‘Cats will play the second game of the weekend series in the Berry Events Center at 7:35 p.m. 
Saturday’s game is Warmth On Ice as everyone is encouraged to bring mittens and hats for the toss onto the ice. The local rotary chapters encourage everyone to bring a hat and/or mittens.
The NMU women’s basketball team will play at UW-Green Bay in an exhibition game at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Let’s look ahead towards next week. The NMU volleyball team will host a first round match in the GLIAC Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for all students.
Hockey will host Western Michigan in a CCHA series on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 9-10) at 7:35 p.m. both nights. Saturday’s (Nov. 10) game is Armed Forces Night as discounted tickets are available for all men and women in the armed forces and their families.
