MIDLAND, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s volleyball squad made it a clean sweep this weekend on the road. NMU took care of the Northwood University Timberwolves on Saturday in three straight (30-27, 30-25, 32-30). The Wildcats are now 18-10 overall, 13-4 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and are riding a four-match winning streak. NU falls to 18-9 overall and 6-9 in the conference.
The two big hitters for the ‘Cats for the match were Caryn VanBeckum and Amy Andersen-Goldsworthy with 18 and 11 kills respectively. NMU had 56 kills for the match in 144 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .250 percent. Brittany McGowan had 43 assists for match honors. She also added 14 digs in the win.
Cassie Osiecki led the defensive effort with a match-high 19 digs while Breanne Zaremba added 14. At the net the ‘Cats as a team had two block solos and six block assists. VanBeckum had one block solo and three block assists. Katt Garvick had the other block solo and two block assists.
NMU has two more matches left in the regular season as the team is at Michigan Tech on Wednesday (Oct. 31) and then will be at home for the regular season finale on Saturday (Nov. 3) against Lake Superior State.
