BAY CITY, Mich. – Caryn VanBeckum has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week. The junior middle hitter from DePere, Wis. led Northern Michigan University to a GLIAC home sweep last weekend against Ferris State University and an upset of #8 Grand Valley State.
She helped the Wildcats solidify its second-place position in the North Division with a 3-1 win over the Bulldogs on Saturday, tallying 16 kills, eight total blocks and three service aces while hitting at a .324 clip. On Sunday, VanBeckum tallied a career-high 26 kills while hitting .394 percent with six digs and two blocks in the 3-2 upset of GVSU, who was previously unbeaten in GLIAC play.
For the weekend she averaged 4.67 kills per game in the two wins while hitting .363 percent.
