MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team faced the number one team in NCAA II on Sunday at the NMU Soccer Field. Grand Valley State University showed why they are the top ranked team in the country as they defeated the Wildcats 3-0. NMU drops to 10-4-2 overall on the season and 3-3-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) while the Lakers improve to 16-0-0 and 7-0-0 respectively.
Katy Tafler scored all three goals for the Lakers. She scored at 4:04 with an assist from Kristen Eible, again at 7:04 unassisted and at 63:51 with a helper from Ashley Eisass.
GVSU had the advantage on shots at 14-8. Twelve of the Lakers shots were on-goal. NMU for the day had three shots which were on target.
Kara Music was in goal for the ‘Cats as she had nine saves. Kristina Nasturzio for the Lakers had the shutout and three saves along the way. Each side had three corner kicks.
NMU will play its regular season finale on Sunday (Oct. 28) in the Superior Dome against Finlandia at 12 p.m. (noon).
