MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at Northern Michigan University announces the Athletes of the Month for September. From the football team Mark Bossuah was selected as the Male Athlete of the Month. Renee LeBlanc, from the soccer team, was named the Female Athlete of the Month.
Bossuah, a sophomore, from Grand Rapids, Mich. set a new NMU and Superior Dome record against Hillsdale College on Sept. 8 when he rushed for 317 yards on 35 carries. The old NMU record was held by Nelson Edmonds in 1991 against Wayne State as he rushed for 291 yards on 62 carries. The old Dome record was 260 yards set by Edmonds against Indianapolis during the 1991 season.
For the month he had 537 yards on the ground on 76 carries. Bossuah scored three rushing touchdowns during September. He caught four passes for 32 yards for September. Bossuah currently leads the GLIAC and Wildcats on the ground with 118 carries for 742 yards. He is tied for 15th in the nation in NCAA II in rushing. Bossuah has scored five times on the ground for the season.
LeBlanc, a senior, from Fenton, Mich. began September by scoring twice against Lewis on Sept. 3. The two goals at the time gave her 39 for her career to set a new NMU career record. Carolyn Kunas held the previous mark of 38 goals. She added two more goals and an assist against Northwood on Sept. 22.
LeBlanc currently leads the ‘Cats with seven goals and two assists. She is tied for sixth in the GLIAC in goals.
