Three Goals In First Half All 'Cats Needed

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Three goals in the first half was really all the Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team needed on Sunday afternoon as they defeated the Cardinal Stritch Wolves, 4-0 in a non-conference game, for the team’s eighth shutout of the season. With the win the Wildcats improve to 7-3-2 on the season while CS falls to 2-12-0.
 
Renee Leblanc got things rolling for the ‘Cats with her seventh goal of the season 3:43 into the game. The goal was assisted by Abigail Debiak. Ashley DeKeyser made the score 2-0 with her third goal of the season at 25:47.
 
Dana Stephens would score the next two goals for the ‘Cats at 37:32 and 59:01 respectively. The goals were her first two of the season. Her second goal was assisted by Katie Alcini.
 
NMU had 37 shots for the day while the Wolves had one. For the ‘Cats 23 shots were on-goal. The corner kicks were in favor of the ‘Cats at 12-1. Dan Bush recorded the shutout for the second of her career. 
 
NMU is on the road next week as the team will face St. Cloud on Oct. 12 and UM-Duluth on Oct. 14.
