NMU Volleyball Perfect For The Weekend

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The streak continues for the Northern Michigan University volleyball team. On Sunday the Wildcats defeated the Timberwolves of Northwood University in three straight (31-29, 30-27, 30-27). Combined with yesterday’s win over Saginaw Valley the ‘Cats were perfect for the weekend. NMU has won its past seven matches in a row; five of the matches have been played in Marquette. The ‘Cats improve to 13-7 overall and 7-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) while the Timberwolves fall to 14-6 and 2-6 respectively.
 
Katt Garvick and Mandie Meyer led the team as they had a combined 30 kills out of the 48 for the match. Garvick led the way with 16 as Meyer had 14. As a team, the ‘Cats had a hitting percentage of .149 percent. 
 
Three ‘Cats had 10 or more digs on the defensive end. Cassie Osiecki led the charge with 16 digs, Meyer and Brittany McGowan had 12 each. McGowan had 39 assists for the match and two service aces. NMU as a team had 10 service aces for the match.
 
Andersen-Goldsworthy at the net led the ‘Cats with two block solos and five block assists. Katie Twardzik added five block assists.
 
NMU will hit the road for its next four matches. All the matches will be against teams from the GLIAC South. First up this week are matches at Hillsdale on Friday (Oct. 5) and Wayne State on Saturday (Oct. 6).
