ERIE, Pa. – All the Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team needed on Friday afternoon was Kari Buckel’s fourth goal of the season. Her unassisted goal at 48:29 stood up to be the game-winner as NMU defeated Gannon 1-0. With the win the Wildcats improve to 6-2-2 overall on the season and 2-1-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) while the Golden Knights fall to 6-2-2 and 2-1-2 respectively.
As a team the shutout was the ‘Cats seventh of the season. Kara Music played the entire 90 minutes in net for the ‘Cats. The shutout was her second of the season as she had four saves for the game.
NMU had 15 shots for the game with seven being on-goal. GU had 13 shots with four on target. Corner kicks were in the favor of the home team at 5-1.
The team will stay in Erie to take on Mercyhurst on Sunday (Sept. 30).
