MARQUETTE, Mich. – Casey Wilcox scored the opening goal of the game at 15:57 to give the Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team the early 1-0 lead over the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals. SV would answer with a goal a little less than 13 minutes later. Stephanie Roy scored the goal for the Cardinals at 28:20 to tie the game at one-all. That score would stand up for the next 81 plus minutes (two overtimes) as the teams played to a 1-1 draw.
NMU is now 5-2-2 overall on the season and 1-1-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) while SV is 4-2-1 and 1-1-1 respectively.
For the game NMU had the shot advantage at 17-13, but could not pull the trigger in the overtime periods. Sixteen of NMU’s shot were on-goal. The Wildcats had the edge on the corner kicks at 8-5.
Kara Music went the distance in goal and registered five saves for the game. Music is now 5-2-2 on the season with a 0.75 goal-against average and a .870 save-percentage.
NNU will hit the road next week towards Erie, Pa. The ‘Cats will face Gannon on Friday (Sept. 28) and Mercyhurst on Sunday (Sept. 30).
