MARQUETTE, Mich. – Led by Mandie Meyer’s 13 kills the Northern Michigan University women’s volleyball team swept the Gannon Golden Knights on Saturday afternoon. NMU won its fourth match in a row to improve to 10-7 overall and 4-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) while Gannon falls to 4-8 and 0-4 respectively.
NMU won by scores of 30-10, 30-15, 30-12 as Meyer had 22 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .545 percent. She was the only ‘Cat for the match who had eight or more kills. As a team NMU recorded 43 kills in 81 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .395 percent.
Cassie Osiecki had five service aces and six digs. Brittany McGowan added 30 assists and three digs. At the net, NMU had one block solo by Caryn VanBeckum and six block assists. Amy Andersen-Goldsworthy led the way with two block assists.
The ‘Cats will stay busy as they travel to Lake Superior State on Tuesday (Sept. 25) before coming back to Marquette and facing Saginaw Valley State and Northwood next weekend (Sept. 29-30).
