ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s volleyball team went on the road for its first conference match of the season and came out on the short end of a 3-1 count (24-30, 30-28, 21-30, 28-30). With the loss the Wildcats fall to 6-7 overall and 0-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) while the Lakers improve to 13-2 and 3-0 respectively.
Katt Garvick with her team-high 17 kills led three ‘Cats with 10 or more kills for the match. She had 60 total attempts for the afternoon and ended the four-game match with a hitting percentage of .117 percent. Caryn VanBeckum added 13 kills while teammate Amy Andersen-Goldsworthy had 10. VanBeckum added two service aces and four block assists. For the match the ‘Cats had 56 kills in 214 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .121 percent.
Brittany McGowan had 43 assists, 15 digs and two block assists in the loss. Breanne Zaremba led the ‘Cats with 25 digs as teammate Cassie Osiecki added 24. Callie Youngman was the fourth ‘Cat with 10 or more digs for the match as she added 10.
NMU will play at Ferris State tomorrow (Sept. 16) on the road swing.
