BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team (1-0-0) opened up its 2007 campaign with a 4-0 win over Bemidji State University (0-1-0) on Friday afternoon. Emily Lockery scored two of the four goals for the Wildcats.
Lockery opened up the scoring with a goal a little over 19 minutes (19:11) into the game. The goal was unassisted. Renee LeBlanc made the count 2-0 with a goal at 22:14. Dana Stephens assisted on the goal. The third goal of the first half was compliments of Amanda Gadomski at 25:46. Her goal was assisted by Casey Wilcox.
Lockery scored the lone goal of the second half at 51:29 on a corner kick. She ended the game with three shots on goal.
NMU ended the contest with 22 shots as nine were on target. BSU had 12 shots for the game. The ‘Cats had the advantage on the corner kicks at 4-1.
In front the of net, NMU used two goalkeepers on the day for the combined shutout. Kara Music started the game in goal as she had eight of the 10 saves. Dana Bush played a little over 16 minutes between the pipes and had two saves.
The ‘Cats will stay in Bemidji and take on UM-Crookston on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 26) at noon.
