Wildcats Picked 10th In GLIAC Preseason Poll
BAY CITY, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University football squad was picked 10th with 48 points in the 2007 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Preseason Football Coaches Poll, which was released as part of the league’s media day luncheon.
Two-time defending NCAA II Champion Grand Valley State University was picked as the top team in the conference by the league’s football coaches with 144 points as the Lakers picked up all 12 first-place votes they were eligible to receive. Northwood University was second in the balloting with 120 points as they received the remaining first-place vote.
Saginaw Valley State University placed third in the balloting with 115 points. Ferris State University with 108 points was picked fourth. Wayne State University was picked fifth as the Warriors received 96 points.
Michigan Tech edged Indianapolis for the sixth spot. The Huskies garnered 87 points as the Greyhounds were two points back (85).
Ashland was picked eighth with 72 points. Eleven points back in the ninth spot was Hillsdale with 61 points. After NMU was Mercyhurst in 11th with 29 points, The University of Findlay with 26 points and Gannon University (23) to round out the poll.
The league’s 13 head coaches participated in the balloting, but were not allowed to vote for their team. The first-place team on each ballot received 12 points, while second received 11 points, etc.
