MARQUETTE, Mich. – Dominic Yoder, the head volleyball coach at Northern Michigan University, announces two additions to his coaching staff. Kristin Slamer has been named the assistant coach while Amy Molenaar has been selected as the graduate assistant.
Slamer is a recent graduate of Albion College (May 2007) where she received a bachelor of arts degree in K-12 physical education, with a minor in secondary health. She was a member of the Dean’s List for five semesters. Slamer was a four-time varsity letterwinner for the Britons and captain of the squad for the 2006 season. She left Albion as the all-time career digs leader with 985 digs. Slamer set the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) all-time record for kills in a four-game match when she recorded 27 kills at Tri-State University during the 2004 season. She was named to the All-MIAA Volleyball Team as an honorable mention selection after the 2006 season.
Her coaching experience has included a stint as a volunteer assistant volleyball coach at Albion High School for the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Slamer was the head volleyball coach at Albion Middle School from 2004-06. She was a coach with the Team Deer Club Volleyball Team. The Battle Creek, Mich. native played three years of her high school volleyball under Yoder.
Molenaar graduated from Lake Superior State University in May 2007 with a bachelor of science degree in exercise science where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She was named the Outstanding Exercise Science Student for the 2006-07 graduating class. Molenaar was the 2006 recipient of the Bud Cooper Coaches Choice Award which is based on character, leadership and community involvement.
On the court, Molenaar, led the Lakers in blocking for the 2004 and 2005 seasons as she recorded 226 blocks. She was named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Volleyball Team as an honorable mention selection for the 2005 season. Molenaar was a student-assistant coach for the Lakers volleyball team during the 2006 season.
